"Celebrating Culture. Empowering Communities."
Our Story

The Spanish and Latin American Community Organisation (SALCO) is a grassroots, multicultural organisation supporting children, families, and culturally diverse communities across Australia.
SALCO began as a small organisation wanting to help newly arrived families maintain their language and traditions. From those early days, we’ve grown into a recognised community hub offering cultural programs, language learning, youth education, and community events.
Over the years, we’ve partnered with schools, councils, embassies, and community leaders to create programs that reflect our values and respond to the needs of vulnerable families, children, and individuals from Spanish-speaking, refugee, and multicultural backgrounds.
Our work spans across generations, offering:
-
Early intervention and youth engagement programs, including robotics, language schools, and creative arts that foster confidence, learning, and leadership.
-
Soft-entry pathways to services, connecting people with counselling, domestic violence support, health care, and local social supports in safe and culturally appropriate ways.
-
Cultural celebrations and festivals, such as: Art Exhibitions, the Latin American Film Festival, Culture Mix, and the Spanish & Latin American Outdoor Fiesta — creating opportunities for the whole community to experience and enjoy multicultural traditions.
-
Creative workshops in arts, crafts, and cooking, providing safe and inclusive spaces where children, young people, and families can learn new skills, build friendships, and celebrate cultural traditions.
Today, SALCO proudly represents over 21 Spanish-speaking countries from Latin America and Spain, embracing the diversity, history, and shared cultural identity of our communities.
At SALCO, we believe in the power of culture to connect people and in the importance of creating spaces where everyone feels welcome, valued, and supported. Whether through music, art, technology, or language, our mission is to preserve heritage, celebrate diversity, and strengthen communities for future generations.
