ABOUT SALCO

Spanish & Latinamerican Community Organization

 

 

SALCO is an independent Community organization, which works specifically with members of the Spanish Speaking Community.

 

SALCO’s experience and expansive network has made the organization a viable tool for reaching our community at the grassroots level.

Each service and project is supported by the commitment of passionate staff and committee members dedicated to the advancement and development of the community.

 

SALCO aims to unite and represent approximately  21 countries consisting of: Europe Spain and Latin America  where there are nineteen (19) Spanish speaking and one Portuguese speaking countries located in North, South, Central America, and the West Indies. They are Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico (US territory), Uruguay, and Venezuela.  Latin America is a multicultural and multilingual region with a variety of ancestries, ethnic groups and races, making the region one of the most diverse and multicultural in the world.

 

OUR VISION

SALCO's vision is to strengthen the Spanish speaking community.

We believe these full of rich traditions and positive cultures should be preserved for future generations to enjoy, encouraging participation in all aspects of Australian society; and offering a positive vision for the future.

We envision a cohesive and diverse community where all people are valued and empowered to participate and contribute to the health and prosperity of the Illawarra.

 

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to develop and empower our Spanish speaking community to thrive at home and in our community, by affirming and preserving the cultural heritage, providing an umbrella for services and by advocating for participation in the larger community. Creating opportunities for advancement and building bridges that unite and strengthen us all.

 

OBJECTIVES:

-    To provide & co-ordinate approach to social/communal services for the Spanish speaking                          community

-    To provide an information and referral service to individual clients in need of personal                                support/resourcing.

-   To facilitate the involvement of the Spanish speaking community in other broad-base community              activites and existing mainstream services.

-   To provide an on-going community devlopment role by identifying community needs and developing      appropriate strategies to respond to these needs.

-   To provide a  supportive and resourcing base for existing organisations within the Spanish speaking        community.
